MahWengKwai & Associates (MWKA) is proud of its ongoing collaboration with TrustLaw, the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono platform which connects leading law firms and high-impact NGOs and social enterprises.

We are pleased to share our latest project with Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) where we contributed the Malaysia Chapter in the guide on impact investing in Southeast Asia, titled “Expanding Opportunity: A Guide to Impact Investing in Southeast Asia” at page 83.

The Guide to Impact Investing, envisioned by ANDE, aims to enhance understanding of local impact investing regulations across Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia. Our Corporate Department, Cassandra Thomazios, Anis Mohd Sohaimi and Sarah San, completed the Malaysian chapter pro bono. This chapter emphasises Malaysia’s alignment with global trends in integrating sustainable development goals into investment strategies, despite the field’s emerging status in the country. The guide serves as a resource for social enterprises, incubators and investors, offering insights into Malaysia’s potential as a strategic, culturally diverse, and sustainability-focused destination for impact investing.

MahWengKwai & Associates worked alongside esteemed law firms in Southeast Asia who worked on the other chapters for their respective countries, including A&O Shearman, DFDL, Mayer Brown, and SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan.

In addition, our Corporate Partner, Cassandra Thomazios, was featured in a video titled “Impact Investing in Malaysia” which can be accessed on YouTube, discussing key aspects of why Malaysia is an attractive destination for impact investments. In the video, Cassandra also covers why Malaysia is compelling for investors and explores the key instruments and business entities available.

We invite you to read the Guide on Impact Investing and watch the video to gain further insights into the opportunities and challenges of impact investing in Malaysia. MahWengKwai & Associates remain committed to supporting initiatives that align with our values and drive positive social and environmental change. We are honoured to have played a role in this collaborative effort to bolster impact investing across Southeast Asia.
