This year marks a truly special milestone for us at MahWengKwai & Associates (MWKA), our 40th Anniversary since the firm was founded in 1985 by Dato’ Mah Weng Kwai. From a humble one-man practice to a respected law firm known for integrity, excellence and justice, our journey over the past four decades has been nothing short of meaningful.
At the heart of our story is Dato’ Mah, whose illustrious legal career spans over 50 years. Called to the English Bar in 1971 and to the Malaysian Bar in 1972, Dato’ Mah served with distinction in the Judicial and Legal Services before returning to private practice. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he has championed human rights, notably as a former commissioner with SUHAKAM. His unwavering dedication to justice continues to inspire all of us at MWKA.
In continuing this legacy and in celebration of our 40th anniversary, we are excited and proud to announce the launch of the MWKA Foundation, our initiative to give back more effectively to the community that has supported us throughout the years.
Introducing the MWKA Foundation
The MWKA Foundation is our commitment to doing more, using our knowledge of the law to uplift lives. Over the years, we have been privileged to serve those in need through pro bono work. With the Foundation we will carry out our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts more intentionally, focused and structured. As part of our commitment, MahWengKwai & Associates has joined the global Pledge 1% movement and pledges to channel 1% of all our legal fees directly to the MWKA Foundation to support its mission.
Our core focus areas:
💼 Promoting Access to Justice
Justice requires fair representation. The Foundation will provide financial support for legal representation and disbursements to those in need, helping to remove barriers to justice.
🎓 Supporting Legal Education
We are investing in the next generation of legal professionals through scholarships, training programmes, and mentorships for young, aspiring lawyers.
📚 Advancing Public Legal Awareness
Through public talks, outreach programmes, and community education initiatives, we aim to improve legal literacy and empower individuals with knowledge of their rights.
To celebrate the launch of the Foundation and support our mission, we are organising a Fundraising Gala Dinner where ticket proceeds and sponsorships will go to the MWKA Foundation and its programmes.
Thank You for 40 Years
As we look back on 40 years of practice, we remain deeply grateful for the trust and support of our clients, colleagues, and friends. The MWKA Foundation is our way of paying it forward – continuing Dato’ Mah’s vision, and doing our part to build a fairer and better community.
We hope you’ll be part of this next chapter with us.
