MWKA believes that, as a firm and as individuals, we have a responsibility towards giving back to the community through our various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes. Much forethought and careful planning are given to our CSR events as we strive to respond to the needs of our local community with the goal of making a positive impact in the lives of the people we are reaching out to.
Habitat for Humanity envisions a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. They serve and assist corporate and local partners worldwide by raising awareness of poverty housing, responsibly obtaining and administering resources, providing leadership and training, and upholding the integrity of their ministry.
Since its founding in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 400,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. In 2013, our Chief Operating Officer, Lum Ying Mei, was invited to join the National Board of Trustees (“NBOT”) of Habitat for Humanity Malaysia . Other NBOT members include: Allen Tong (President), Dato’ Lee Tuck Fook (KL), Timothy Ngu (Kuching), Joanna Kitingan (Kota Kinabalu), George Chong (Kota Kinabalu) and Michele Soh (Asia Pacific)
In the recent ‘20th Annual Charity Walk/Jog/Wheel A-Thon with the Disabled’ organized by the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and FT and held at the Padang Merbok (Kuala Lumpur) on 24th November 2013, MWKA were happy to assist Habitat in raising funds for their organisation through jogathan cards. Our donation drive resulted in raising a total of RM770. MWKA committed to matching ringgit-for-ringgit of the total donation sum, and a cheque for RM1,540 was delivered to Habitat for Humanity Malaysia in support of a worthy cause.
The firm also looks forward to participating in a 1 day home-building project with Habitat for Humanity Malaysia in the first half of 2014 where we will help to build not only someone’s home, but also their lives by restoring dignity and hope!
More about Habitat for Humanity:
“Habitat for Humanity Malaysia envisions a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The ambitious United Nations Millennium Development Goals, the globally agreed drive to tackle poverty and deprivation in all its forms, include specific calls for “a significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020”.
Habitat for Humanity International puts such goals into reality by transforming lives through the provision of safe, decent and affordable homes. A decent home opens the door to improved health, better performance in school, greater economic opportunities, and increased community cohesion. The challenges of combating poverty housing are complex.”
