OVERVIEW: At the time of this talk the Covid-19 virus has claimed thousands of lives. Are you and your family prepared for the worst? For Muslims, although faraid (law of succession) exists to ensure those closest to us will receive a portion of our property, we are encouraged to prepare a wasiat (will) to further ease the process for those we leave behind. We may also consider using hibah (gift) during our lifetime which would give us more freedom to distribute our assets rather than be restricted under faraid or wasiat. In this online talk, our speakers covered the requirements of a wasiat, its importance, as well as the role of hibah, its advantages and the emergence of conditional hibah, among others.
