Dev Sundram co-leads the Medical & Personal Injury Department at MahWengKwai & Associates. He has a deep passion for medical law, with over a decade of experience handling medical negligence claims at the civil courts. Dev is dedicated to advancing the law in regard to compensation outcomes for plaintiffs in such claims.
Dev read law at Aberystwyth University and is a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2015.
Dev has been invited to deliver talks on topics related to medical law to members of the medical profession, and is a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia.
Dev has also been involved in a number of hearings before the Malaysian Medical Council, on behalf of both patients and healthcare practitioners.

Medical Negligence
- Dev has acted for patients and/or their next-of-kin in a broad spectrum of cases involving, amongst others, catastrophic injuries, severe brain damage, bowel / intestinal injuries, obstetric and gynaecological injuries, radiological errors, anaesthetic accidents and mishaps, orthopaedic injuries, missed/delayed diagnosis of cancer, ophthalmological injuries, urological injuries and dental injuries.
- Dev has also acted as counsel to law firms representing clients who are victims of medical negligence.
Medical Defence or Malpractice
- Dev has acted for doctors in respect of suits filed by patients in the Malaysian Courts.
Disciplinary Proceedings and MMC Complaints
- Dev has acted as counsel in proceedings before the Malaysian Medical Council on behalf of patients (in respect of their complaints against healthcare practitioners) and healthcare practitioners (in respect of disciplinary proceedings brought against them).
