
MahWengKwai & Associates (MWKA) is pleased to announce that Pn Sarah Kambali, Mr Gan Chong Chieh and Ms Christine Toh are new partners of the firm, effective 1 March 2019.
Speaking on behalf of the firm, Managing Partner Mr Raymond Mah said, “The firm is very proud to recognise as partners three talented and experienced lawyers who have strived to exceed the expectations of our clients. The recognition is also a testament to the firm’s commitment to the career advancement of our associates.”
At the announcement event on 25 February 2019, the firm’s founder and consultant, Dato’ Mah Weng Kwai, welcomed the new partners and emphasised that their leadership as partners must continue in line with the firm’s core values, emphasising in particular, the importance of hard work and integrity in all areas of practice. Partner Mr Richard Wee said that the recognition was hard earned and that thanks to the rest of the team are in order for supporting the achievements of the new partners.
Sarah Kambali
Sarah obtained her Bachelor of Laws LLB (Hons) in 2006 from the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). More recently, she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Syariah Law and Practice from the Universiti Technology MARA (UiTM) in 2018. She chambered under Mr Richard Wee in Azizah, Sarina & Khoo and was called to the Bar in 2007. She joined the firm as a senior associate together with Mr Richard Wee in 2016.
Sarah’s key practice areas include real estate transactions and loan documentation, corporate and commercial law. She also advises on Syariah law, particularly matters pertaining to inheritance (faraid) and Muslim wills (wasiat). Sarah is a member of the Selangor Bar’s Conveyancing Practice Committee and the Kuala Lumpur Bar’s Corporate and Conveyancing and Practice Committee.
Gan Chong Chieh
Gan holds a Masters of Laws in International Economic Law from the East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) under a scholarship of the Chinese Ministry of Education. Gan also holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of London. Gan chambered under Dato’ Mah Weng Kwai in 2008 and commenced legal practice with the firm in 2009. He was recognised as a senior associate in 2015 and heads the firm’s ASEAN-China Desk for inbound and outbound investments.
Gan practices in the areas of construction, strata management disputes, contested and uncontested estate matters, debt recovery, banking litigation, commercial litigation and general litigation.
Christine Toh
Christine graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Business System from Monash University in 2004 and completed her Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams in 2006. She became a member of ACCA in 2009. Christine Toh subsequently obtained her Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of London in 2012 and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2014. Christine joined the firm as an associate in 2016 and was promoted to senior associate in 2018.
Christine’s primary areas of practice are construction (adjudication, arbitration and litigation), tax, matrimonial disputes and general litigation.
